The purpose of the pattern making project was to explore the value of patterns in design. The project consisted of two parts and was focused on repeating surface patterns comprised of a recurrent design that was inspired by nature. It began with finding an object from nature to use as the inspiration for a creating a design. This formed the recurring element in the pattern design. The project continued with examining the elements or structure of the pattern (analysis) and reassembling the elements of the pattern in relief (synthesis) to explore a transformation from two to three dimensions and the impact of light on the pattern.
